Another one of those "not sure what to do next" little exercises...I could always add some ink/crosshatching or coloured pencils, or not....

Love the fishies, they are done to a tee.

But the background seems empty to me. Some crosshatching or pattern would make it look less flat or give it more depth.
Colours, composition and everything else is superb.

Hope you don't mind me saying so, but you did ask. Not that I know much.:cuddle:

Hi Sue, thanks for sharing your honest opinion. I suppose I just got sidetracked while working on this, and then didn't bother to finish it...It's often hard to know if something needs more work or not. In the past I often overworked something and then wished I could go back to how it was. Thanks for your suggestions. I may yet work on it some more, and incorperate some more texture/hatching and shading.
Thanks for the great suggestions!

You are a good sport, Karin.
Fancy telling an artist what to do with their work!
You will do whats right for you. I know that all the suggestions and critique in the world really doesn't change how you really feel about your own work. It doesn't matter what you end up doing, its always stunning, fresh, and joyful to look at.

Well, I must say, I am a good sport most of the time. Well, I did ask for people's opinions. I would not do that unless I feel secure. If I think the critique has merit, I might use the suggestion. I have had some criticism but rarely anything insulting. I don't really take it to heart. I just respect the fact that people have different tastes, and that not everyone will like my work.
You were also telling me what you like about this picture...I appreciate your suggestions, and like your honesty, but you are also very kind. Thanks!

You know what? I like this one even better! Maybe it's the colours? Or their funny/sad faces?

Hello Pat! I'm so pleased you took the time to comment on my two fish paintings. It means a lot to me, since I consider you a teacher and super talented artist. Thanks for the kind comment, and the encouragement. :)

You are most welcome, Karin! But you certainly don't need any encouragement from my end! :lmao:
